Fawad Alam, son of Pakistan’s famous first-class cricketer Tariq Alam, made his first-class debut at the age of 17. Due to his prolific performance in domestic circuit He was picked to represent Pakistan at the U-19 World Cup.
In first class history with respect to Highest Batting Average, he is 4th best among all the cricketers making their First Class debut in the current century only after Hanuman Viahari 60.30, Mosaddek Hossain 59.86 and Australian’s Steve Smith with 59.05.
Fawad Alam has now 11559 runs in 247 innings to his name, of which 42 were unbeaten.
He is considered as the unluckiest cricketer in the history of Pakistan Cricket. Alam who aged 33 recently scored 100 off 138 deliveries in QEA Trophy, he is knocking the door harder now specially after scoring at good SR where every other batsman criticized to score slowly.
With such an impressive record at domestic level he has only able to played 03 tests for Pakistan where he scored century in his debut match against Srilanka, Fawad became the first Pakistani cricketer to score a Test century on debut away from home.
However, Mickey Arthur seemed unconvinced of Alam’s qualities but If anyone can relate himself with Alam’s situation, it’s none other than the current Head Coach and Chief selector of Pakistan National team Misbah ul Haq.
“My job is to perform in the middle. Why I am not being picked is a question for selectors,” he responded when asked the question on Sunday.
After his latest effort with the bat, Alam was asked about his omission from the national team which is become a regular question whenever he faced media. His reply was rational. “My job is inside the ground, not outside. Ups and downs are part of life. You can’t get everything your way every time,” he responded when asked the question on Sunday.
He Further said:
“I have seen more downs than ups but thankfully that has made me even stronger and I always try to keep my chin up.
But Question arises what he needs to done more to impress selectors?
How long he has to wait?
How he can prove himself as the one who can perform at international level?
When asked about Fawad Alam, Misbah ul Haq responded “My mind is open for any player, depending on what you require in the team and the player should focus that scoring runs is not the only requirement good fielding, good temperament, good attitude is a definite criterion”
But exactly what Fawad is missing? He is such a brilliant fielder with fighting attitude, if he doesn’t possess any of the afore mentioned things he would not be able to score 11000 plus FC runs.
