It is every player’s dream to be on top of their game and so do every batsman dream!
But, when it comes to Test format, it becomes more than just a dream. And, it’ll take patience, practice and passion to achieve the landmark. Then, even bigger efforts are required to retain the position to a considerable time period. ICC rankings are changed every year and a player gets multiple chances to prove his credibility of becoming ICC’s no. 1.
Talking about test cricket, the first name that arrives in mind is Virat Kohli who is ruling the test rankings and ODI rankings as well. The second name is of Kiwi captain Kane Williamson, who is also known as “captain cool”. This man has taken calmness to another level, the way he pretended even after losing the CWC 2019 final. Not only Kane’s nature but his batting is also very delightful to watch, averaging 53.4 in tests.
Now, the last but not the least, the “test expert” Steven Smith who returned to national side after completing his ban for spot-fixing. Before ban, Smith was on top of the list and on his return he was gone to 4th spot. But, after playing only one test he managed to gain 46 points and went to third place in rankings. He scored centuries in both innings of the match and lead his team to victory in first ashes test. He has the highest average in test cricket in modern era, averaging 63.
Now, the question is, can Smith get his throne back? And how long will he retain his glorious batting form with Kohli and Kane in competition?
